Manatee jail inmate charged with attempted murder-for-hire

MANATEE -- An inmate at the Manatee County jail has been charged with trying to hire a hitman to kill a witness in his pending criminal case, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Roderick Hamilton, 23, was charged Friday with solicitation for murder.

Detectives began their investigation a week ago after receiving information that Hamilton was trying to put up a contract for a hit, according to a news release.

Hamilton agreed to pay a detective posing as a hitman $6,000 to carry out the killing, the sheriff's office said.
Hamilton was charged last year in connection to a shooting that occurred at the Burger King restaurant at 3803 First St. E., Bradenton.
